His parents were Eugenia Lilian and Stephen Fauci, who owned and operated his pharmacy in Dyker Heights. He’s of Swiss and Italian descent. Fauci went to Regis High School. He attended College of the Holy Cross, where he graduated in 1962 with a B.A. in classics and a pre-med track. He then attended Cornell University’s Medical College, graduating in 1966 with a Doctor of Medicine degree. Fauci became a resident at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and completed his residency in 1968.After his medical residency, Fauci joined the National Institute of Health as a clinical associate in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (N.I.A.I.D.) Laboratory of Clinical Investigation. In 1974, he became the Head of the Laboratory’s Clinical Physiology Section. In 1980, Fauci was appointed the Chief of the N.I.A.I.D’s Laboratory of Immunoregulation. In 1984, he became the Director of N.I.A.I.D. and still holds this position today. Fauci has witnessed several medical achievements. He developed therapies for formerly fatal diseases like polyarteritis nodosa, granulomatosis with polyangiitis, and lymphomatoid granulomatosis. He’s also contributed to understanding how H.I.V. destroys the body’s immune system and was one of the leading researchers during the AIDS epidemic of the ‘80s. Fauci has served as a medical advisor for various presidents. In December 2020, President-elect Joe Biden asked him to serve as the Chief Medical Advisor to the President, which he accepted. In 2022, Fauci was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science at the University of Michigan.As a renowned physician, scientist, and immunologist, Fauci’s personal affairs are private.
