On the Sabbath, the leading priests and Pharisees pleaded with the Roman authorities to put a large stone over his tomb to prevent anyone from coming to steal his body. Despite this arrangement, an angel of God appeared and rolled away the stone three days after the crucifixion, stunning the Roman guards who collapsed out of shock. Over the next 40 days, Jesus appeared to many witnesses in the city of Jerusalem.According to the ‘Gospel of Luke, chapter 24:50–52,’ “Then Jesus led them to Bethany, and lifting his hands to heaven, he blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up to heaven. So they worshipped him and then returned to Jerusalem filled with great joy.
