Caroline Kennedy, born on November 27, 1957, is a writer, editor, attorney, and diplomat from the United States. She is the only child of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy and former First Lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy who has survived. She was the United States Ambassador to Japan from 2013 until 2017. She began her career in writing, editing, law, and politics in the early 1990s. She was a co-chair of Barack Obama’s Vice Presidential Search Committee after endorsing him in the 2008 presidential election. She also expressed an interest in running for the Senate seat in New York at one point. She later withdrew her nomination, though. Caroline Bouvier Kennedy was born on November 27, 1957. Born in New York City, she is the eldest daughter and the only surviving child of John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, the former President and First Lady of the United States. She spent the first years of her life in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. Her father was elected 35th President of the United States when she was three years old, and the family moved into the White House. Shortly before her sixth birthday when her father was slain, the family departed the White House two weeks later and returned to Georgetown. They eventually relocated to Manhattan before graduating from Concord Academy in Massachusetts in 1975. She then graduated from Harvard University’s Radcliffe College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts in 1980, and from Columbia Law School with a law degree in 1988. After graduating, she worked as a research assistant at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Film and Television Department in New York.In 1989, Kennedy and her family founded the “Profile in Courage Award,” which honors daring public people. Kennedy is on the boards of directors of the Commission on Presidential Debates and the N.A.A.C.P. Legal Defense and Educational Fund. She was one of 35 national co-chairs for Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign. In June 2012, she made several appearances to promote President Barack Obama’s re-election. In November 2013, she was sworn in as the first female U.S. Ambassador to Japan.
