Carrie Hope Fletcher was born in London, England, on October 22, 1992. Tom Fletcher, her older brother, is the founder, lead vocalist, and guitarist of the English pop rock group McFly. Fletcher dropped out of school at the age of 16 and has no institutional musical theater training. Fletcher first appeared on television when she was five years old, in a short Channel 4 ident. Fletcher made her West End debut at the age of nine, playing Young Eponine in the sung-through musical “Les Misérables,” based on Victor Hugo’s novel of the same name. In 2002, she joined the original cast of the stage musical “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” playing Jemima Potts, which had its West End premiere at the London Palladium. From June 17, 2013, to February 13, 2016, Fletcher played the older version of Éponine in “Les Misérables,” replacing Danielle Hope at the Queen’s Theatre in London. She became the production’s only British actress to play the role in both versions. On February 23, 2014, her outstanding performance in the role earned her the ‘WhatsOnStage Best Takeover in a Role’ award.From November 10 to December 2, 2016, she played Eponine in the Dubai Opera production of “Les Misérables.” During the musical’s major U.K. and Ireland tour, one of her most memorable stage performances was as Wednesday Addams in “The Addams Family.” Fletcher’s performance earned her the WhatsOnStage.com Award for Best Actress in a Musical in 2018. In 2019, Fletcher returned to the West End as Fantine in “Les Misérables” for a 16-week run at the Gielgud Theatre in an entirely staged concert adaptation of the musical.
