As one of the more successful comedic actors and directors from Mexico, Derbez has a plethora of critically acclaimed T.V. shows and movies under his belt. From the late 1980s to the early 1990s, weekly Mexican T.V. programs featured him regularly. Soon after, he started working for a Mexican family that featured and produced his own comedy series, “Al Derecho y al Derbez.” He landed his first recurring T.V. role in a comedy show called “Anabel.” One of his movies, “Sangre de mi Sangre,” won the 2007 Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, the same year that he starred in his first non-comedy movie, “Under the Same Moon.”Despite his popularity in Mexico, it wasn’t until Derbez appeared as Felipe in Adam Sandler’s “Jack and Jill” in 2011, which also starred Katie Holmes, Al Pacino, and Adam Sandler, that he broke out among the English-speaking audience. He also appeared in “Girl In Progress” with Eva Mendes, which was also directed by Patricia Riggen. Eugenio has had roles in “Rob!” on C.B.S. and “Latinologues” at the Helen Hayes Theater on Broadway.The most popular Spanish-language movie ever made in the United States and the rest of the world, “Instructions Not Included,” which Derbez both starred in and directed, shattered multiple box office records and made over $100 million in 2013. The comedy-drama in Spanish became an unexpected $44 million hit in the United States and the third-highest-grossing movie in Mexico ($46 million) of the year. Derbez appeared in “How to Be a Latin Lover,” a Lionsgate/Pantelion film in which he co-starred, among others, alongside Salma Hayek, Rob Lowe, and Kristen Bell. The movie, which Derbez and Ben Odell co-produced, was released in 2017. In 2021, the cast of CODA, in which he appeared as a music teacher, won all three Academy Awards nominations, including the ‘Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.’Derbez resides in Los Angeles with his family.
