Background

Born as Guy Ramsay Ferry on 22 January 1968 in Columbus, Ohio, to Penelope Anne and Lewis James Ferry, he grew up in Ferndale in Humboldt County, California. During grade school, he started his entrepreneurial journey by selling pretzels from his “Awesome Pretzel” cart and washing dishes to finance his trip to study in France. As a foreign exchange student there during high school, he developed his interest in food and cooking. On returning to the United States, he worked at the Red Lion Inn in Eureka, California, until he left for college in Las Vegas. Not long after graduating, he worked as manager of Parker’s Lighthouse restaurant in California. Three years after working in Southern California, he became district manager of Louise’s Trattoria, where he managed six locations along with recruiting and training for the restaurants. With six years of professional experience behind him, in late 1996, he opened a restaurant along with his business associate Steve Gruber. They started Johnny Garlic’s in Santa Rosa, California, followed by three more in Windsor, Petaluma, and Roseville, in 1999, 2000, and 2008 respectively. The business partners then opened a restaurant called Johnny Garlic’s in a new form in Dublin, California in 2011. Fieri took the risk of opening a diner in New York City, considering that the Big Apple was the most competitive market for restaurants in the U.S. He named it “Guy’s American Kitchen and Bar” and it opened in 2012. The restaurant received negative press reviews with the “New York Times” bitterly criticizing the café’s opening. The diner was featured on the Top 100 Independent Restaurants in the “Restaurant Business’s listing” in terms of sales, Fieri decided to close his New York City restaurant at the end of 2017.Simultaneously, as his restaurants opened up across the cities, he rose to fame as the star of “The Food Network.” On April 23, 2006, Fieri won the second season of “The Next Food Network Star,” he was awarded a six-episode own cooking show on Food Network which premiered on June 25, 2006. “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” his second series, premiered in April 2007 followed by “Ultimate Recipe Showdown,” co-hosted with Marc Summers, which debuted on February 17, 2008, and aired for three seasons. “Guy Off the Hook” debuted on September 14, 2008. In December 2009, Fieri hosted a game show “Minute to Win It,” which premiered in March 2010 and aired for two seasons. He then appeared on the reality series “Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off” in January 2012 followed by a second on January 6, 2013. “Guy’s Grocery Games,” started on October 27, 2013, and featured four cooks who battle through three rounds, and are judged by three judges. He’s authored multiple cookbooks such as “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” (2008), “Guy Fieri Food: Cookin’ It, Livin’ It, Lovin’ It” (2011), “Guy on Fire” (2014), and “Guy Fieri Family Food” (2016).Fieri first met Lori Brisson when she came into a restaurant that he was managing in Long Beach, California.
