Informed Woman Month 2025 – April 2025

Informed Woman Month, celebrated in April, aims to build a world that breaks the stereotypes and empowers women to realize their self-worth. Imagine a world in which women have their free will, they get quality education and proper health facilities just like men — that’s what this day strives to achieve. Women have always been the leading light since the beginning and they deserve equal rights as that of the opposite genders. This April, let’s praise the strong women for staying educated and informed about their interests and letting them learn things they always wanted to learn.

History of Informed Woman Month

Informed Woman Month is associated with women’s empowerment and appreciating the role of women in society. The history of this month traces its roots back to 1908. The story starts with the incident in which 15,000 women in New York marched through the streets. This protest was to ask for better pay, suitable working hours, the right to vote, and other basic rights for women. These efforts bore fruit and one year later, a socialist party of America proclaimed to celebrate Women’s Day on February 28, at a national level. A woman named Clara Zetkin proposed the celebration of this day on an international level in 1910 at the International Conference of Women in Copenhagen. She proposed that there should be a dedicated day for women all over the world. The day would call for celebration and fighting for the rights of women. All the women at the conference from 17 countries representing different women’s clubs and socialist parties agreed with her idea.International Women’s Day was celebrated for the first time on April 19, 1911, in many countries, including Austria and Denmark. Different parties and clubs organized campaigns asking for the rights of women. Their motto was that “women should be allowed to stay informed, educated and work in an office without discrimination.” Over one million people participated in this event — also including many men. This boosted the confidence of women and encouraged them to achieve what they’ve always wanted.Keeping in mind the fact that Informed Woman Month is directly linked with women’s empowerment to make them able to learn different things and explore the world on their own. The efforts made in 1911 paved the way for the celebration of women’s empowerment, which led to Informed Woman Month. In 1975, the United Nations celebrated Women’s Day in April to plan a better future for women in all aspects and praise the efforts made by women for their rights in the past. Therefore, other than International Women’s Day, to appreciate the efforts of women and letting them enjoy their will, in new calendars, April is regarded as Informed Woman Month. This month highlights the importance of an informed woman in society, who can fight against patriarchy and discrimination against women. Although women are seen in every field and excelling equally with men today, there are some occurrences of past discrimination. Therefore, we celebrate this holiday annually hoping to progress in society with each passing year.
