The holiday aims to encourage the earth’s people to take action in relieving our planet from harmful acts and commit to cleaner, greener environments. Our fascinating planet is not talked about enough, but this day gives people a chance to learn all about our planet and how it came into existence. The solar nebula, a disk-shaped collection of dust and gas left over from the birth of the Sun, which also created the rest of the solar system, accreted into Earth some 4.54 billion years ago. Earth, the third planet from the Sun, is the only place in the known cosmos where life has been confirmed. With a radius of 3,959 miles, Earth is the sixth largest planet in our solar system. Every other planet in the solar system was named after a Greek or Roman god, but certain cultures have defined our world for at least a thousand years using the Germanic word ‘Earth,’ which simply means “the ground.”
