Jalen’s mother is a nurse and his step-father also played basketball. While in high school at Washington Union High School, Marcus played alongside N.B.A. player DeShawn Stevenson. In the third grade, Green and his family moved to Fresno and in the sixth grade, he played Amateur Athletic Union basketball.After high school at San Joaquin Memorial High School, Green became a full-time basketball player. 18.1 points and 9 rebounds in starting was what he averaged at the time. He also led his team into reaching a CIF Central Section Division. The team held a 2nd runner-up position. Being named CIF Central Section’s rookie of the year earned Green with the Max Prep Freshman all-American second-team afterward. Green went ahead to score an average of 27.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in his sophomore season and again led his team to CIF Division 2nd title and the CIF open division playoffs.
