Nurmagomedov’s interest in M.M.A. sprouted from watching M.M.A. students train at his local gym when he was a kid. He started wrestling at the age of eight, being initially coached by his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. He made his M.M.A. debut in 2008, winning four matches in a month.
