Mark Hamill was born on September 25, 1951, in Oakland, California, to Virginia Suzanne and U.S. Navy Captain William Thomas Hamill. One of seven children, four sisters, Terry, Jan, Jeanie, and Kim, and two brothers, Will and Patrick. His mother was half Swedish and half English, while his father is of English, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh descent. At the Los Angeles City College, where he studied theatre, he made his acting debut in 1969 on “The Bill Cosby Show.” Later, in 1963, he co-starred in the comedy series “The Texas Wheelers.” In 1964, he played Kent Murray in a recurring role on the soap opera “General Hospital.”When “Star Wars” was released on May 25, 1977, it became a tremendous and unexpected hit that significantly impacted the movie business. Additionally, Hamill appeared in 1978’s “The Star Wars Holiday Special.” In the popular prequels “Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back” in 1980 and “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi” in 1983, he went on to play the lead role. The Saturn Award for ‘Best Actor’ went to Hamill for both sequels. The 1981 radio adaptation of “Star Wars” and the 1983 radio adaptation of “The Empire Strikes Back” featured a reprise of the Luke Skywalker character.
