National Cookie Month - Who else absolutely can not keep their hands off the cookie jar?

National Cookie Month 2025 – October 2025

National Cookie Month is marked in October to celebrate the existence of cookies. These snacks are stocked in most homes, stores, bakeries and everywhere cookies exist — except the internet cookies, which are not edible. Every year for a month, we knead some dough and celebrate the delicious, luscious, savory snacks that are cookies.

History of National Cookie Month

We are not quite clear on the history of National Cookie Month and its pioneers (but we might have spent all day researching cookie recipes instead of the actual holiday!) Cookies are flat and round snacks made from a sweetened dough or personalized recipe. The word ‘cookie’ is linked to the Dutch word ‘koekje,’ which refers to a small cake.In medieval times, baking was an arduous profession that required years of experience and apprenticeship. Consequently, baking became more and more common among housewives and one was bound to be offered a tray of biscuits accompanied with tea or coffee as a conversation starter or a silence filler.Cookies have, over time, become a guilty pleasure for most. They have evolved to become early morning breakfasts, desserts, and midnight munchies. The power cookies have over us is undeniable. And what’s more interesting is the simple method and ingredients needed to make them.National Cookie Month seeks to give us yet another opportunity to pop that dough in the oven and enjoy a little self-indulgent holiday. We promise to eat as many cookies as we can and not question the history of a holiday as sweet as this.

National Cookie Month FAQs

What if I don't have an oven?

To celebrate National Cookie Month, you do not need to make your own cookies. You can easily get store-baked cookies and pop them in the microwave for that warm and fresh aroma. Also, some cookie recipes do not require an oven.

Can I freeze my cookies?

Yes you can, but ensure they are double wrapped to prevent moisture from getting in, causing them to break. Alternatively, you can freeze cookie dough and bake them as needed. Always ensure they defrost completely before reheating them in the oven.

Why do my cookies not turn out great?

Check the recipe you are using and follow due process, also check the expiration date and measurement of products to see if everything is in order. A little oversight here and there can cause even the greatest recipes to flop.
