History of National Timothy Day

Timothy, a name of Greek origin, was very popular in the 1960s, the same decade, Timothy was also popular for girls. Many famous people go by the name of Timothy such as actors Timothy Hutton and Timothy Olyphant, director Tim Burton, and athlete Tim Tebow.“A Christmas Carol”, written by Charles Dickens, follows Ebenezer Scrooge, a miser who was visited by the ghost of former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. The story sets the scene of a bleak and cold Christmas Eve in London. Scrooge, the story’s protagonist, is introduced as an old miserly businessman who hated Christmas. Scrooge barely allowed employee Bob Cratchit Christmas Day off with pay, as was the social custom. Through the course of the story, Scrooge was visited by the ghost of an old colleague, Marley, who warned Scrooge about the arrival of the spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. By the end of the story, Scrooge emerged from the experience a kinder, more benevolent man.The Timothy in this story was Tiny Tim. Though he was only seen once in the story, Tiny Tim was an extremely important part of the narrative. The character serves as a symbol of the consequences of Scrooge’s choices. When Scrooge was visited by the spirit of Christmas Present, he was shown how ill Tiny Tim was and how the Cratchit family could not afford to treat him due to the meager wages Scrooge paid the family patriarch. Following this, Scrooge was shown a vision of Tiny Tim’s grave when he was visited by the spirit of Christmas Yet to Come. This, among other things, led Scrooge to change his ways. By the end of the novella, Tiny Tim survives and finds a second father in Scrooge.
