History of National Women's Heart Day

Having a healthy body and living up to 100 years is a dream that a lot of people have. But most people do not live long enough to see this dream become a reality. Among those who reach that age, most are only a shadow of who they used to be. Compared to other living creatures, we are lucky that we can live for around 100 years — most mammals do not live more than 20 years! The average lifespan of a human being was not anywhere near this in ancient times. Back then, people were lucky if they reached 30 years old. Developments in medical science have helped us counter various health conditions. Heart diseases are one of the major reasons most of us die before we hit our 100-year mark. Women suffer from this even more than men. Heart-related diseases are the number one cause of death among women in the U.S.February is considered National Heart Health Month to help decrease the death toll and get people involved in activities that can boost heart health. Subsequently, in 2001, National Women’s Heart Day was started to raise awareness about heart conditions and cardiovascular diseases.
